Protests across the country have called for racial justice in systems like the policing and court system all this year, but advocates say that the problem is society-wide and will only be ameliorated by bigger thinking . In many industries, diversity and inclusion trainings that teach ways to identify things like unconscious bias or structural racism are being used more often.

But, the federal government is not going to participate in certain diversity trainings if they highlight racism as systemic, according to an executive order and two memos from the Trump administration. In one of the memos, OMB’s Russ Vought threatened discipline if employees engage in the “divisive” training programs. Eric Katz wrote about the most-recent memo and he joined the show to talk about the future of diversity training in the federal government.
